BLACKROLL Fascia Gun Review

The BLACKROLL brand is best known for its own fascia roller. In addition to this, the company has now also launched a mini-massage gun, the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun. I bought this myself and tested it extensively. The results of my test I would like to present to you in this review.

Summary

  • BLACKROLL Fascia Gun is one of the best mini massage guns.
  • Unfortunately, it has a rather weak motor, which is typical for devices in this size category.
  • However, it has other strengths. It is one of the quietest massage guns around.
  • In addition, it is particularly handy and light. This means that even long massages are barely strenuous.
  • Sadly, the massage gun is quite expensive.

Scope of Delivery and Attachments

The BLACKROLL Fascia Gun is delivered in an extremely small, compact cardboard box. This has a picture of the massage gun on the front.

However, I do not want to deal with the appearance of the box any further. More important is the content. This includes the following

  • 1 x Blackroll Fascia Gun
  • 1 x Ball Attachment
  • 1 x Metall Flat Head Attachment
  • 1 x Fork Attachment
  • 1 x Bullet Attachment
  • 1 x USB-C cable
  • 1 x Manual

At first glance, the scope of delivery looks quite good. However, I have to criticize some things. Neither a carrying case nor a power supply is included. In my opinion, both should be included in every package.

I would also have liked an air cushion attachment for sensitive areas. However, that is rather complaining on a high level. I would now like to go into detail about the included attachments:

The ball attachment is a standard attachment for massage guns. With the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun, the attachment is comparatively small, so it is more suitable for medium-sized muscles and only to a limited extent for larger muscle groups.

The flat head attachment made of metal is, as the name suggests, covered with metal. This makes the attachment very suitable for the application of oil or sports gel during massage. Due to its shape and size, the attachment is mainly used for larger muscles.

The fork attachment has two pointed ends with a gap in the middle. This allows bones, tendons and ligaments to be spared. Popular areas of application for the fork attachment are accordingly the back and calves.

The bullet attachment has a rather pointed end. This allows targeted treatment of individual points on the body. Therefore, the attachment is used for massaging small muscles as well as trigger point massage.

All attachments make a solid, very well-made impression. The material of the attachments (apart from the metal attachment) is probably special. While many manufacturers rely on foam or plastic, the BLACKROLL uses silicone here, which feels more pleasant on the skin and looks more valuable.

Functionality

The BLACKROLL Fascia Gun has the following four power levels for massage:

  • 1st Level: 1,200 rpm
  • 2nd Level: 1,700 rpm
  • 3rd Level: 2,700 rpm
  • 4th Level: 3,200 rpm

The distribution of the power levels looks quite good at first. However, I find the gap between the 2nd and 3rd levels quite large. Apart from that, the individual levels are also clearly noticeable during the massage. However, I must say that all in all, the massage could feel much more intense.

The stroke length of 7 mm is not enough to hit the deep-lying tissue. Also, the massage feels more like a vibration than shocks. However, the gun is also advertised as a Vibration Massage Gun.

The power of 24 watts could also be higher. The rather weak motor probably contributes to the fact that the jolts could feel more intense. At least the motor is not directly blocked when you press a bit harder with the gun. That is otherwise often the case with weak motors.

Usability and Handling

The operation of the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun is similar to that of other mini-massage guns and just as simple. Thus, the entire operation is done via a single button, which is located below the handle. When the button is held, the gun turns on. Pressing the button allows you to cycle through the power levels. Switching off is done by holding the button again.

The current level is displayed via four small lights. These are also located underneath the handle.

I can also not say or write anything negative about the handling from my experience. On the one hand, the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun is very light. Thus, the gun with ball attachment weighs only 1.30 lbs (588 g) and without attachment only 1.22 lbs (552 g). Even with prolonged use, this did not make my arm heavy.

On the other hand, the massager fits perfectly in hand. One reason for this is that the handle is not too thick and is easy to grip. The second reason is that the handle is ribbed. This means that it does not slip out of hand so easily.

Power Supply

The BLACKROLL Fascia Gun contains a battery with a capacity of 2,600 mAh. According to the manufacturer, this should last up to 15 hours and be charged in about 6 hours. I cannot confirm either value. The maximum runtime is more like half, which is about 7 hours. Charging, on the other hand, was faster for me. However, this also depends on the power source used. I used a power supply unit.

So that you know when the gun needs to be charged, there is a battery indicator. This consists of the lights on the bottom of the handle. Depending on what color they are, the battery level is indicated as follows:

  • full battery charge: green light
  • < 10 % battery charge / charging: red light

Unfortunately, this display is quite inaccurate since you do not know exactly how long you can use the massage gun. Finally, the battery lights up green when it is charged to 11%, as well as when the charge is 80%.

The battery is charged via the included USB-C cable. This is plugged into the bottom of the Fascia Gun and connected to a power source (powerbank, laptop, etc.). To charge the gun at a power outlet, an additional power adapter is needed.

Unfortunately, the battery cannot be replaced, which I think is a shame considering the price of the massager. If the battery finally breaks, you have to buy a new massage gun and can not only change the battery.

Noise

To determine the volume of the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun, I recorded the sounds from a distance of 40 cm with a volume meter. I obtained the following values:

  • 1st Level: ~ 41 dB to 42 dB – similar to a quiet room
  • 2nd Level: ~ 43 dB to 44 dB – similar to a light rain
  • 3rd Level: ~ 47 dB to 48 dB – similar to birds chirping
  • 4th Level: ~ 48 dB to 49 dB – similar to a (very) quiet conversation

All in all, this makes the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun not only a very quiet massage gun but probably one of the quietest on the market. At least, that’s what my experience from testing other models shows. I was particularly surprised to find that on the lowest setting, the gun is almost imperceptible, even in a quiet room. But even at the highest level, I did not find the volume annoying at any time.

Material and Quality

When it comes to the material of the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun, the manufacturer has put mainly metal. The attachments, in turn, are made of plastic, silicone, and metal. All in all, this makes a very good impression. I probably don’t have to mention here that metal is one of the best materials that massage guns can be made of.

Besides the material, workmanship also plays an important role. Here, too, I cannot find fault with anything. I could not detect any sharp or unclean edges in my copy. The gaps are also all very small.

An extremely unpleasant smell is noticeable in many inexpensive models. This usually comes from the rubber coating on the handle and/or the material of the carrying case. Since both are not present in the mini massage gun from BLACKROLL, I could not notice such a smell.

Price Performance

I paid € 189.90 for the Masasge gun. During my test, the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun was also available at about this price. This makes it one of the most expensive mini-massage guns on the market. In addition, it has some weaknesses. From a price-performance point of view, I can not recommend it. In my opinion, there are better models at a lower price.

Conclusion – BLACKROLL Fascia Gun Review

Summary

BLACKROLL Fascia Gun is one of the best mini massage guns. Nevertheless, it combines the typical weaknesses and strengths of the handy models. The weaknesses mainly include that the motor could be stronger and the low impact depth. The latter is much lower in most mini-massage guns than in the “normal” models. This makes deep tissue massage rather impossible. Also, the Fascia Gun is quite expensive for the power it provides.

On the side of the advantages is mainly the handling due to the small size as well as the low weight. But also the material quality and workmanship are first class. Here there are hardly any better massage guns.

However, I was most convinced by the volume. This is one of the lowest, if not the lowest on the market. I myself have yet to hold a quieter mini massage gun in my hand!

If the above features are important to you, I can definitely recommend the BLACKROLL Fascia Gun even despite its high price!
