GOBEES Massage Gun Review

On Amazon, the reviews of the GOBEES massage gun range from very good to very bad. However, the 5- and 4-star ratings clearly predominate. Whether these ratings are justified, I would like to find out in the following test report. For this purpose, I bought the device in the 2021 version and tested it extensively.

Summary

  • The GOBEES massage gun is unfortunately one of the worst massage guns tested by me.
  • Due to the result and quite high price, it is not worth buying in my opinion. The GOBEES massage gun is too loud. Especially on the low levels, a clear beep sound could be heard.
  • However, the worst thing for me was the quality. Thus, immediately after unpacking, scuffs were visible on the matte surface. In addition, the gaps in the upper area were set unevenly.
  • Therefore, I would instead buy the Ekrin B37 for a bit higher price. It performed much better in my test.

Scope of Delivery and Attachments

GOBEES massage gun is delivered in a cardboard box. On its front is printed a large picture of the massager.

The box contains a carrying bag with the gun and all accessories. The following list gives you an overview of the entire contents of the scope of delivery:

  • 1 x GOBEES Massage Gun
  • 1 x Ball Attachment
  • 1 x Round Head Attachment
  • 1 x Bullet Attachment
  • 1 x Fork Attachment
  • 1 x D-shaped Attachment
  • 1 x Half Moon Attachment
  • 1 x Cushion Attachment
  • 1 x Air Plug Attachment
  • 2 x Carry Bag
  • 1 x Charger
  • 1 x Manual

As you can see from the picture as well as the listing, everything is included that is needed to use the massage gun. Especially the 8 different attachments stand out. I will go into these in more detail here so that you get a better impression of their uses and quality.

The ball attachment is the standard attachment par excellence. It is usually supplied with every massage gun. The attachment is used for all kinds of muscles, but is mainly used for massaging larger muscles.

The round head attachment is also used for massaging almost all muscle groups. However, due to its shape and size, it is best suited for medium to large muscle groups.

The bullet attachment is virtually the opposite of the round head. This attachment has only a small surface with which it hits the body. This allows the attachment to provide a deep massage.

The fork attachment is used when certain areas are to be left out. This is the case, for example, with a massage along the spine. But the attachment is also popular for use on the calves.

The D-shaped attachment is also quite versatile. Since it has an elongated bearing surface, it is often used for the abdominal muscles, but also for the shoulders.

The half-moon attachment was designed specifically for use on the thighs. But in my experience, you can also massage the upper arms very well with it.

The cushion attachment absorbs shocks. This makes it particularly suitable for sensitive body parts. This attachment caught my eye particularly positively, as hardly any air cushion attachment from other manufacturers yields as well as this one.

The air plug attachment is also supposed to absorb shocks. However, this did not convince me very much in my test. This worked much better with the cushion attachment. According to the manufacturer, the air plug is used on the lower back.

Some customer reviews on Amazon state that the attachments look like cheap products from a 3D printer. However, I cannot agree with this. The attachments have a similar quality as almost all other massage guns.

Functionality

The GOBEES massage gun has 7 power levels, ranging from 1,200 to 3,200 strokes per minute. Unfortunately, there is no exact information from the manufacturer about the shock frequencies of the individual stages. In my experience, however, they should be distributed roughly as follows:

  • 1st Level: 1,200 rpm
  • 2nd Level: 1,500 rpm
  • 3rd Level: 1,800 rpm
  • 4th Level: 2,100 rpm
  • 5th Level: 2,400 rpm
  • 6th Level: 2,700 rpm
  • 7th Level: 3,200 rpm

This makes the massage gun versatile. It is suitable for relaxing massages as well as for working on deeper tissue as well as fascia. In my test, this worked very well. This was supported by a good stroke length. I could not find any information about this. However, it should be around 12 mm.

Furthermore, it should be mentioned that the gun has a pressure sensor. This lights up when (too) strong pressure is applied with the massager.

Usability and Handling

The operation of the GOBEES massage gun is hardly different from most other massage guns. Before it can be used, the gun is turned on via a switch on the bottom.

As soon as it is switched on, the gun can be started via a touch surface on display. The power level is increased for each press on the surface. Once all levels have been switched through, the gun restarts at the first level. I find it a pity that the gun cannot be stopped briefly at the current level, but the levels have to be switched through again to stop and start it.

The handling is also not optimal. The handle is quite wide. This ensures that it does not lie optimally in hand. This is especially the case for people with smaller hands. It also doesn’t help that the grip is rubberized as well as ribbed and the weight of the gun is in a good range (2.12 lbs / 963 g without attachments, 2.17 lbs / 983 g with ball attachment).

Power Supply

Inside the massage gun is a 4,800 mAh battery. Its capacity is very high and is about twice that of other guns. The battery also lasts for a correspondingly long time. The battery life is specified with 8 to 16 hours. For me, the battery usually lasted 8-10 hours.

The battery status is displayed on the one hand at the bottom of the handle.

There is also an indicator on display.

This shows the battery level in the following steps:

  • 100 % battery charge: all six lamps on
  • 80 % battery charge: five lamps on
  • 60 % battery charge: four lamps on
  • 40 % battery charge: three lamps on
  • 20 % battery charge: two lamps on
  • < 20 % battery charge: one lamp on

The battery is charged using the supplied charging cable. This is plugged into the bottom of the massage gun and then into a power outlet. The entire charging process then takes a few hours.

The only small drawback with the power supply is that the battery cannot be replaced. So if the battery breaks, the entire massage gun is unusable. Therefore, there is a point deduction.

Noise

The GOBEES massage gun is advertised with a particularly low volume. However, I can not confirm this. In my test, I measured the volume from 40 cm and got the following values:

  • 1st level: ~ 54 dB to 55 dB – comparable to a TV
  • 2nd level: ~ 55 dB to 56.5 dB – comparable to a conversation
  • 3rd level: ~ 56 dB to 57 dB – comparable to a conversation
  • 4th level: ~ 57 dB to 58 dB – comparable to a loud radio
  • 5th level: ~ 57 dB to 58 dB – comparable to a loud radio
  • 6th level: ~ 57.5 dB to 58.5 dB – comparable to a loud radio
  • 7th level: ~ 58 dB to 59 dB – comparable to a loud conversation

Thus, the massage gun is very loud in comparison. However, I have to say that the noise level was not directly caused by the motor. Much more of a shrill beep sound was perceptible during use. Whether this is a defect of my gun or that is normal for the model of GOBEES, I can unfortunately not say. However, since the problem occurred with me, there have been deductions in this category.

Material and Quality

The GOBEES massage gun could only be convinced to a limited extent in this category.

Plastic was chosen as the material. This is very thick and correspondingly robust. Thus, the gun looks quite valuable, although not quite like other models made of metal (e.g., the Hyperice Hypervolt).

However, there are flaws in the workmanship. Scuffs were visible on the matte surface right after unpacking. In addition, the gaps in the upper area were unevenly sized.

Unfortunately, I have to make the most deductions for the smell. Already when opening the packaging, I was met by a strong chemical smell. This only subsided somewhat after a few hours in the air but was still perceptible at close range. This smell is particularly strong on the rubber handle, which makes me suspect that softeners or similar was used here in large quantities.

Price Performance

I had to pay €89.99 online for the GOBEES massage gun in the 2021 version. When I wrote this review, the price was even only around $69.99. This puts the gun in the good mid-range in terms of price and costs, similar to the ABOX Hero 1, for example, so that I would rate the price-performance ratio as fair but not particularly good. The GOBEES massage gun is neither particularly cheap nor does it stand out positively from other models in the same price segment.

Conclusion – GOBEES Massage Gun Review

Summary

Overall, the GOBEES massage gun would actually be a very good massager. However, its two major weaknesses keep it from doing so:
On the one hand, the gun bounces around a lot in terms of quality. So I could notice small scratches after unpacking. However, the unpleasant chemical smell was even more disturbing.
On the other hand, a beeping noise was noticeable on all levels during use. This was very disturbing and loud. However, I don’t know if this was specific to my copy or a general problem with the massage gun.
Aside from these drawbacks and the others I’ve listed for you below, you’re getting a solid mid-priced massage gun from GOBEES here. It’s easy to use, has a large scope of delivery, and has a long-lasting battery. It also provided a pleasant massage sensation in my test.
