Mebak 5 Review

The Mebak 5 is one of several massage guns from the health device manufacturer. With over 1,800 reviews and an average of 4.7 stars on Amazon at the time of this writing, the Mebak 5 is also one of the most popular massage guns. I would like to find out whether this very good rating is justified in this review. That’s why I bought the gun myself and put it through its paces in detail.

Summary

  • All in all, the Mebak 5 is a good massage gun in the medium-price segment. It convinced me primarily by the very good workmanship of the material and the large scope of delivery.
  • The massage gun is also relatively light, which makes it good to handle.
  • However, I was particularly disturbed by the fact that a rather loud, annoying beeping noise was perceptible on the medium levels.
  • In addition, the motor of the Mebak 5 is weak.
  • I would, therefore, rather buy the Ekrin B37 for a bit more money. It performed much better in my test.

Scope of Delivery and Attachments

Mebak 5 is delivered in a gray cardboard box. On which there is a drawing representation of the massage gun.

In turn, the box contains the following:

  • 1 x Mebak 5
  • 1 x Ball Attachment
  • 1 x Flat Head Attachment
  • 1 x Nubbed Flat Head Attachment
  • 1 x Fork Attachment
  • 1 x Bullet Attachment
  • 1 x D-shaped Attachment
  • 1 x Carry Bag
  • 1 x Attachment Carry Bag
  • 1 x Charger
  • 1 x Manual

This provides everything you need to use the massage gun. The entire scope of delivery also seems very high quality. I also really like the fact that a small bag is included for transporting the attachments. This is not the case with many models.

Only with the attachments I would have liked that an air cushion attachment for the sensitive areas on the body is included. However, this is not a must. Especially since the other attachments are suitable for massaging all body regions:

The ball attachment is quite large and round in shape. It can therefore be used for basically all muscle groups. However, it is especially recommended to use it for medium and large muscles.

The flat head attachment is slightly smaller than the ball attachment. Therefore, it is also used for basically all muscles. I like to use the attachment to massage my chest muscles.

The nubbed flat head attachment has the same shape as the normal flat head attachment. Accordingly, the areas of application are the same. The difference between the two attachments is that this one has a nubbed surface. This provides a special feeling during the massage.

The fork attachment has two ends between which there is a recess. This makes the attachment particularly suitable for use on the back and calves. Various bones, tendons and ligaments need to be cut out here.

The bullet attachment has a small round tip. This allows the attachment to be used very specifically on “small” muscles. I use it, for example, for trigger point massage and massage of the soles of the feet.

The D-shaped attachment has a narrow, elongated contact surface. Thus, this attachment can also be used quite universally. However, it is particularly suitable for massaging the back or abdominal muscles.

All in all, not only the variance of the attachments but also their quality convinced me. They all look very sturdy and cleanly manufactured. They also feel pleasant on the skin. Accordingly, I cannot criticize anything in this category.

Functionality

Mebak 5 massage gun has the following five power levels:

  • 1st Level: 1,300 rpm – daily relaxation
  • 2nd Level: 1,500 rpm – muscle activation
  • 3rd Level: 2,000 rpm – release sore muscles
  • 4th Level: 2,400 rpm – boost blood circulation
  • 5th Level: 2,800 rpm – deep tissue massage

Accordingly, there is a power level for each of the most common applications. Even though most other massage guns reach over 3,000 rpm, 2,800 rpm at the highest level is perfectly adequate.

On the lowest setting, I used the massage gun for relaxation. It was very pleasant and felt light on the skin. The deep tissue massage also worked well. Here, I just couldn’t press on too hard. Otherwise, the rather weak motor (30 watts) blocks.

The amplitude of the gun is 10 mm. This is instead the lower limit for a deep massage. Here, 12 mm or more would be desirable.

The Mebak 5 does not have any additional functions. There is no pressure sensor, for example. In addition, the massage duration is not displayed. There is also no automatic timer that switches off the massage gun when it is used for a certain amount of time.

Usability and Handling

The operability of the Mebak 5 is quite good. The gun is simply started by pressing the button at the top of the display for a few seconds. After switching on, the power levels are switched through via the same button. If you want to turn the gun off, you have to hold the button again for a few seconds. This all works very simply.

The only thing that bothered me was that you couldn’t pause on a stage and then restart. Instead, you have to cycle through the stages so that the motor stops at stage “0”. This is necessary, for example, to change the attachment, and makes handling a bit more cumbersome than it should be.

The handling is also okay. The pistol does not have a rubber or ribbed grip that would prevent it from slipping out of hand. However, the handle is quite narrow and can still be gripped very well.

In addition, the pistol only weighs about 1.66 lbs (754 g) without the attachment or 1.71 lbs (776 g) with the ball attachment. This is very little for a classic massage gun and is almost in the range of mini massage guns. Thus, it is not heavy in hand even during long use.

Power Supply

The Mebak 5 contains a battery with a capacity of 2,000 mAh. This is quite low for a massage gun. Usually, the capacity is between 2,400 mAh and 2,800 mAh. Some top models even have more than 4,000 mAh.

Nevertheless, according to the manufacturer, the battery is supposed to last up to 6 hours. However, that is hardly possible even on the lowest setting. A runtime of about 2 to 3 hours is more realistic. That, in turn, is typical for a massage gun.

The current battery level is shown on the right side of the massage gun’s display. There are levels 01 to 10, and the higher the level, the fuller the battery.

Besides the low capacity, I also have to criticize that the battery cannot be replaced, so if it breaks, the entire massager is unusable.

On the other hand, I noticed the Mebak 5 positively when it comes to charging the battery. This is quite easy with the supplied charging cable and is done in 2-3 hours. The charging cable is simply connected to a power source and plugged into the bottom of the gun.

Noise

I measured the volume of the Mebak 5 myself from a distance of 40 cm. I determined the following values:

  • 1st Level: ~ 46,5 dB – similar to croaking frogs
  • 2nd Level: ~ 53 dB to 54 dB – similar to a conversation
  • 3rd Level: ~ 56 dB to 57 dB – similar light road traffic
  • 4th Level: ~ 50 dB to 51.5 dB – similar to a TV
  • 5th Level: ~ 53.5 dB – similar to a conversation

As you can see, the 2nd and 3rd levels are the loudest. This is not typical for a massage gun. Normally, the volume increases with the power levels, as the motor simply gets louder. However, with the Mebak 5, a rather high, annoying sound could be heard on level 2 and level 3, respectively. On the other levels, this was again not audible.

I was very disturbed by the sound. In addition, the medium levels are used most often. I deduct accordingly in this category.

Material and Quality

As with most inexpensive massage guns, plastic was used as the material for the Mebak 5. Nevertheless, the gun looks very sturdy and high-quality. Even if it does not quite come close to models made of metal. In addition, the material makes for a lighter weight.

I can’t say anything negative about the workmanship either. All edges are very cleanly finished. Also, the gaps are even in all places as well as quite small. This is not the case with this gun.

The same applies to the smell. Since many manufacturers rely on rubber handles, cheap massage guns often smell unpleasant like plasticizers. This is not the case with the Mebak 5. Not even the cases smell unpleasant. This is how it should always be!

Price Performance

I paid €99.99 for the Mebak 5 online. When I wrote this review a few weeks later, the price was only around $80. Thus, the massage gun is neither very cheap nor particularly expensive. Rather, it is a gun with typical advantages and disadvantages for this price range. Accordingly, you can’t go far wrong with buying the Mebak 5 from a price-performance point of view.

Note: Both in terms of price and functionality, the Mebak 3 from the same manufacturer is very similar. Therefore, you should take a look at both to find out which one is better for you. Also, one of the two pistols might be on sale right now and therefore cost much less.

Conclusion – Mebak 5 Review

Summary

All in all, the Mebak 5 is a good massage gun in the medium price segment. It primarily convinced me with the very good workmanship of the material and the large scope of delivery. Especially optically, the massage device makes an extremely good impression.

In addition, I liked the application of the massage gun very much. Thus, it lies comfortably in hand and has well-tuned power levels. The whole thing is combined with a very easy operation and a good battery life.

However, I was particularly disturbed by the rather loud, annoying beeping noise on the medium levels. These are used most often. In addition, the gun still has a few minor weaknesses, such as a rather weak motor and missing additional functions (pressure sensor, timer, etc.).

If these negative aspects don’t bother you, I can definitely recommend the Mebak 5.
